We know it's early, but decorate your house now (at least the outside of it), and qualify for a chance to win money and prizes. The Chamber is sponsoring a holiday lighting contest in conjunction with the Christmas Open House. Judging will take place on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 6 p.m. The winner will receive $50 in Chamber Bucks, courtesy of Wells Fargo Bank, and a beautiful Cranberry Deep Dish Baker ($65 value) from Pampered Chef. Light up Tulia!

Fright Night (on the Square and Elsewhere) is returning this year--it's one of the most popular and successful things we do. Kids are encouraged to trick-or-treat around the square (and a few places off the square) for a bagful of Halloween treats.
Officially, the event is from 5-6pm, though traditionally some start earlier. Most businesses on the square will be offering treats, but trick-or-treaters will miss out if they don't go by:
Nana & Moni's Little Black Bag (on 2nd St, across from Moore Than Medicine)
Swisher Electric Coop
Swisher Memorial Hospital (Assisted Living area)
Tulia Family Chiropractic (across from the Post Office)
City Hall--Alley Entrance

Happy Trick-or-Treating!!

That's right! The Texas Department of Agriculture just recognized Tulia as a Go Texan Certified Retirement Community. A lot of folks are retiring younger and healthier than ever before, and a lot are moving to Texas. Retirees spend an average of $36k/year and pay $3k in state and local taxes. They create a dependable full- and part-time workforce, and make excellent volunteers.

From the retirees perspective, property in Tulia/Swisher County is affordable, a 45 minute drive is nothing, and the clean air and safe atmosphere are often quite different from what they have been experiencing.

Now understand, this has nothing to do with a Retirement "Center"--that is, a building of some sort. We are merely marketing the appeal of Tulia as a place to live. Many people have discovered it already.
